Overview

The Escrow Trade Platform is a peer-to-peer trading product that Mithium delivered for a client in 2023. Buyers and sellers trade directly with each other while a smart contract holds the funds in escrow, so neither side has to trust the other or a central operator to settle.

The platform spans five blockchains, with the same escrow flow available on each.

How Settlement Works

  1. A seller lists an offer and a buyer accepts it.
  2. The buyer's funds are locked in the escrow contract on the chosen chain.
  3. Both parties complete their side of the trade off-chain or on-chain.
  4. On confirmation the contract releases the funds to the seller; on dispute or timeout it follows the contract's release rules.

Because the release logic lives in the contract, settlement is trustless: the platform operator cannot move escrowed funds outside the contract's rules.

  • Solidity escrow contracts deployed per chain hold and release funds.
  • ethers.js watchers subscribe to contract events and update order state in real time.
  • Node.js/Express with MongoDB manages offers, orders, and the off-chain side of a trade.
  • React frontend shows live escrow status as on-chain events arrive.
